Thank you for a great summer! All of our 2018 sessions sold out - we will open Early Bird Registration for the 2019 camps will open in January, 2019. Please join our mailing list to receive notifications about registration windows by clicking HERE!

Unleash the power of S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) and the Four Cs of 21st Century Learning (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity) this summer as you work on creative projects at the Beall Center for Art + Technology! Book early, because our sessions often sell out! We now offer three Summer Academies in the Arts:

Expressive Robotics (Ages 12-17):

Session 1: July 8-19

Session 2: July 22-August 2

Session 3: August 5-16

Camp Hours: 10am - 4pm, Monday - Friday

$899 per session; max enrollment is 26 students per session

Unleash the power of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education as you build a robotic structure that moves expressively! Campers will participate in activities related to each S.T.E.A.M. field as they work towards their final project, and will be challenged to put their creativity to the test. UCI student instructors will guide you through our onsite Maker Space, Mobile 3D Print Lab, and Arduino Portal as you work with a teammate to create an awesome ‘bot. Campers will have access to our workshop full of diverse materials, including Vex robotics parts, breadboards, LEDs, motors, art supplies, fabric, and a soldering station. Debut your inventions at our Open House showcase on the last day of camp, and learn from our guest speakers about how they use S.T.E.A.M. in their careers! Previous guest speakers have included professionals from Boeing, Disney Imagineering, and IBM!

No prior coding, programming, or robotics experience is required, and course content is adjusted to the experience level of each camper. Camps do not provide overnight lodging.

Coding + Design – Level 1 (Ages 8-12):

Session 1: June 24-28

Session 2: July 15-19

Session 3: July 29-August 2

Camp Hours: 10am - 4pm, Monday - Friday

$499 per session; max enrollment is 15 students per session

Find out how art and technology can combine forces to create animation, short stories, games, and digital designs! This camp is specially designed for younger campers, and delves into the fundamentals of design and art theory, composition, coding, and programming. Campers will create projects using a variety of techniques, including sketching, painting, and clay modeling, and then represent their work digitally by using the MIT-based Scratch (an educational, visual coding program) and other online platforms. Watch the artwork you create "IRL" become a digital video game sensation!

No prior coding, programming, or art experience is required, and course content is adjusted to the experience level of each camper. Camps do not provide overnight lodging.

Coding + Design – Level 2 (Ages 8-12):

Session 1: July 8-12

Session 2: July 22-26

Session 3: August 5-9

Camp Hours: 10am - 4pm, Monday - Friday

$499 per session; max enrollment is 15 students per session

Take what you learned in Coding + Design Level 1 and pump up the volume! Campers will create more advanced Scratch-based video games by learning about sound design and effects (like those used by Foley Artists) in our new Sound Effects Lab, as well as 3D and digital world building, visual linear perspective and ratios, coding decision trees, symbols, and 3D modeling. This new addition to our Coding + Design series will help campers level up with ample hands-on activities and accelerated use of visual coding blocks!

Prerequisite: MUST have taken Coding + Design Level 1 previously. Access code can be obtained via email. Camps do not provide overnight lodging.

Need and merit-based scholarships for both camps, as well as financial aid is available thanks to Boeing.
